The metallic blue ensemble Prince wore during his Rave Un2 the Year 2000 concert film is unforgettable. Even though the long-sleeve turtleneck and matching pants covered the star completely it left quite an impression.
The outfit is so memorable it was one of the top items at the Julien’s Auctions Property From the Life & Career of Prince event held Friday, May 18, 2018.
The costume was designed by Jose Arellanes and was worn with a pair of custom cream heeled booties with “Andre #1” labels. The ensemble was auctioned in a group lot with a Rave Un2 the Year 2000 DVD, a copy of Steve Parke’s book Picturing Prince, a letter of authenticity from Mayte Garcia, and a signed copy of Garcia’s book The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince.
The auction featured custom Prince clothing, jewelry, photographs, handwritten letters, and other items from photographers, former associates, and friends. Some of the most interesting items came from Prince’s former wife Mayte Garcia.
A laminated photo of a 10 year old Prince offered up by Garcia was auctioned for $1920.
Garcia also auctioned off a five-piece set of Lenox china that was custom made for their February 14, 1996 wedding. The one of a kind set features Prince’s signature Love Symbol with a keyboard border. Although the two were divorced in June of 2000, the custom wedding china was a hot item at the auction.
The custom set sold for $18,750 which is more than four times the original estimated bid. 
Garcia isn’t alone in offering Prince memorabilia up for auction.
RR Auction has held several events featuring Prince memorabilia. Figures from their September 2017 sale garnered triple the projected earnings. Most of the auction items come from close associates, employees, and friends.
The collections came from some familiar names including; hairstylist Kim Berry, personal assistant Therese Stoulil, art director Michael Van Huffel, saxophonist Eric Leeds, assistant tour manager Gwen Leeds, costume designer Helen Hiatt, audio engineer Rob Colby, and former fiance Susannah Melvoin among others.
Another huge Prince auction is coming up July 12, 2018.
Premiere Properties will auction Prince’s five-acre, 10,000-square-foot Turks & Caicos Estate. Potential buyers can arrange a private tour.
