Prince was riding high on a wave of residual success from Purple Rain. He had wrapped up the prodution on “Under the Cherry Moon” which was released one month later on July 4, 1986.
Later in life, Prince stopped celebrating his birthday as part of his beliefs as a Jehovah’s Witness. The JW website says the practice is considered of pagan custom.(for more click here)
But the parties were still going in 1986 and Prince’s Detroit birthday show is one of his most memorable performances.
